​This project for Harvard Arts First celebrates the built environment our team calls home by placing vinyl siding, an everyday material, into the formal and ceremonial setting of Harvard Yard. As one of the most popular exterior cladding systems for residences in the Northeast, we frequently experience vinyl as an unnoticed backdrop. By exploring the characteristics of this material, its fabric-like flexibility and translucency, this installation invites viewers to see it for the first time. Passersby are invited to approach a gateway not unlike a doorway into their own home. Here, landmark buildings become the backdrop to Home on the Yard.
